Well hey thar, cats and kittens! What's that distant sound? Egads, I do believe it's the sound of an approaching sketchpost! It's true, Yr. Correspondent has at last contrived to scan and format the slightly indecent load of pages remaining in her last sketchbook! Now, all these images are far too numerous for a single post, so as often happens I'm divvying them up. This is the first post.

So without further ado, let there be art!

Just want to know how you've been )

Th-that's all, folks! Stay tuned next time for more exciting stuff, including the visual debut of Linus on this journal.

Do you usually experience a let-down after the holidays or a wave of relief that the social obligations are over?

You Are Christmas Eve

You are a patient person, and you would agree that anticipation is sometimes better than the main event.

There's something magical about the night before Christmas - when it feels like anything could happen!

You are a somewhat quiet and spiritual person. You need a lot of alone time to process what's going on around you.

You are optimistic and idealistic. You can't help but feel like things are going to work out.

Writer's Block: Tonight, tonight

If you celebrate Christmas, what will you do this evening? If you don't, will you still do something festive or is it just another night?

I'm going to make my orange pie tonight so it will be ready Christmas morning (a tradition at my house)

Materials required:

--Oreo pie crust
--Mandarin oranges
--Cool Whip
--Orange flavored Jell-O
--Dark chocolate shavings (optional)

Combine mandarin oranges, Jell-O, and Cool Whip in a bowl and mix until the mixture is an orange goo. Pour mixture into pie crust and set in freezer overnight. Sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired

Writer's Block: Like mobile for chocolate

If you had to give up either chocolate or your mobile phone forever, which would you sacrifice?

You Are Santa Claus

You are an optimistic and generous soul. It wouldn't be wrong to call you happy-go-lucky.

It lifts your spirit to brighten someone else's day, especially if this person is a child.

When it comes to helping others, you have boundless energy. And you admit that you sometimes put yourself last.

You'll put in the time to make sure that everyone is happy and content. You don't mind working long hours to bring others a little joy.

He may not physically exist, but he spiritually exists when we give to each other.

How much energy do you expend trying to find the perfect gift for someone you love? Do you enjoy the process or does it make you anxious?

I work pretty hard and check several towns finding stuff for my family--and I love every minute of it!

Are there any classic holiday movies or TV shows that you look forward to watching year after year? What are your all-time favorites? Are there any you simply can't stand?

I love:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
A Charlie Brown Christmas
The animated Disney version of A Christmas Carol (Goofy as Marley is priceless)

I don't really like:

It's a Wonderful Life--I acknowledge it as a classic (as it is a lot of people's favorites), but I just don't really care for it.

You Are Red

You are a passionate, outgoing, and intense person. You are naturally joyful.

However, you tend to be quite intense, and your temper is easy to spark.

You are confident and a real go-getter. You don’t fear or expect failure.

You are a very lucky person. You are destined to be prosperous – if you aren’t already.

The monsters are all done!

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 1:32 PM
The monsters have all been uploaded (excepting [info]shadesong's, because I'm waiting for a reply re: text)! They're linked in the replies to the request entry.

If you'd like to get the original of your monster shipped to you, I'll be figuring out shipping details and should have a post up with information about that shortly after Christmas, Lord willin'. So watch this journal!

Also, [info]kyrahlynn mentioned that she wanted to see all the monsters together, but that makes for a HUGE image-ful post. I thought I'd ask you lot, though--would you like me to post all the monsters together in one ginormous post? Or if you can think of a better way to share them all at once, feel free to suggest it.

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in this event--it was a blast! I had ludicrous amounts of fun designing monsters for y'all.

Your Holiday Personality is Caring

Your holidays are all about connecting and sharing. This is a sacred time of year, and you like to spend it with those who are special to you.

You like to make sure everyone around you is comfortable, full of love (and goodies!), and healthy.

You love to surprise people with the best Christmas gifts ever. You will search high and low for that perfect present.

You are always reflecting on the true meaning behind the holidays. You appreciate all that you have been given in this world.

Writer's Block: Holiday cheer

Do you tend to get nostalgic during the holidays? Depressed? Giddy? How do the winter holidays make you feel?

I get excited and nostalgic this time of year--Nostalgic for Christmases gone by, and excited to see family I may not get to see otherwise and for the presents.

Was there a significant event in your life that helped define who you and caused you to re-evaluate your priorities?

When I battled scoliosis seven years ago, I was fearful I would die because of the pain (although any depressing thoughts I may have had were likely drug induced), and I learned to make the most of each day--because you never know when those closest to you will be gone

This has been reaffirmed to me twice more since I won my battle, and helps to keep things in perspective

I Need You! Yes, You!

  • Dec. 19th, 2009 at 3:36 PM
Oh, hey, gang, I just now recalled a project I was intending to attempt over break, for which I need your assistance! I have decided to do textdumps on some of my characters, critters, etc. In part because I know I frequently refer to these things without explanation in my sketchposts, in part because it helps me organize my thoughts. However, since like Walt Whitman I contain multitudes, the real problem is deciding where to start.

SO!

Comment on this post, suggesting one or all of the following:

1. A character you'd like to know more about.
2. A type of creature you'd like to know more about.
3. A specific aspect of a setting you'd like to know more about.

Going forward I will, periodically, be going through the comments on this entry and writing up textdumps on the topics you've suggested, which will then be posted to this journal under flock (if you'd like to access the friends-only content--lengthier writing and old art, mostly--simply follow the instructions in this post).
Since the last time I uploaded any writing it was a drabble, I think we are due for another novel excerpt!

I had a hard time picking one from this chapter, because it's mostly conversation and each bit sort of leads into the next without very many clean breaks.
